King Coel 2006

King Coel 2006
Grape:Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Rondo and DunkelfelderVineyard:Carter's Vineyards
Dryness:2Wine Maker:Mary Mudd
ABV:11%

A curiosity indeed! An exciting English red wine. This wine has won both Gold and Silver Medals in local wine competitions. It is medium bodied with a fantastic deep colour. There is plenty of ripe red fruit on the palate and gentle tannins from its six months ageing in French Oak barrels. It is only produced in the best years. It is a great accompaniment to red meat. Four grape varieties are made into wine separately and then blended to achieve all the characteristics of this red wine, ie. Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Rondo and Dunkelfelder. This wine, we believe, will age extremely well, but is made in relatively small quantities. Colchester's King Coel, known as the King of the Britains, enjoyed fraternising with the Romans. The nursery rhyme speaks of him drinking wine from his 'pipe' (wine cask), and using his 'bowl' (drinking cup). He encouraged the Roman invasion of Britain which was opposed by his three sons 'fiddlers three'.

The name was chosen to reflect the history of Colchester, honour the feisty Queen of Ancient Britain and our rich spicy red made entirely with only Pinot Noir grapes. A must for the Pinot Noir enthusiast.
